COUNSELING CENTER OUTREACH PROGRAM

The Counseling Center outreach program contributes to the university community by offering information and informal staff presentations on topics such as identifying stress and eating disorders, alcohol education, crisis intervention and support, and workshops and training for RAs.

Annual mental health screening events are offered, in collaboration with the Student Health Center and/or other offices in the Division of Student Life. Areas highlighted include depression, anxiety, alcohol concerns, and healthy eating.

Lectures and workshops are offered as part of Resident Assistant and Resident Minister training and support, helping RAs and RMs to provide and support early identification of stress and mental health difficulties.

Counseling Center staff aid in crisis management providing guidance to the person(s) in crisis, staff or RAs who are involved, or other students in the community who have been exposed to or involved in the crisis.

Presentations are offered in the dorms when requested by RAs or Area Coordinators in order to provide information and support related to stress or mental health difficulties that may be affecting numerous residents.

Counseling Center staff is available for student support and questions following Student Life presentations dealing with mental health issues. RAs may also receive information and training prior to such a presentation.

Finally, the Counseling Center is available and responsive to requests for presentations, support and other appropriate meetings and interventions needed within the university community.
